Around the middle of May, Eagle sent me an e-mail with the subject line "The next step(sinewave)".  The message, in typical Eagle fashion was concise  Smiley

Try it in plexiglass.
That ought to keep you busy for a while

The attached image was this one, a pen I'm sure most of you are familar with "Copper Swirl".

I had no idea how he did it, and to be quite honest I still don't.  But the idea was planted and one day I saw a pen that Gerry posted on the IAP and it gave me an idea as to how I might make an attempt at Copper Swirl.  When the competition started I approached Gerry about doing a collaboration and he agreed.

Six blanks later, after trying every adhesive know to mankind, this was the best I could come up with:

Well On Friday I had a "Eureka" moment and tried something new.  I turned the blank round today and got this  Grin

The blank is going to Montana first thing Monday morning via Express mail.  The sad part of the story is that unless the powers that be grant an extension to the deadline, this blank is not going to make it to Montana in time for Gerry to do his part of the collaboration before the competition deadline   Sad

Any chance of extending the deadline a couple of days?  Grin

I'll tell you what..... I'm %&*$£ glad I'm not Gerry!!!! It would break my heart to blow that up.  Heck, I wouldn't even want to drill it, let alone turn it!!!! I'll keep my fingers crossed for both of you.

I've scratched my head so much I'm losing my hair, trying to find the significance of the 22nd? It probably is so obvious that I'm gonna be seriously embarrased when I find out. But I think you will have to send us ALL a big Christmas pressie if good ole Lou gives you the time!!! Grin

Good Luck

Ok, since there's no one to really argue, I'll extend the deadline until midnight forum time on Saturday October 25th.

Unfortunately there won't be anything to see, at least not anything worth seeing. Cry  It didn't survive drilling, even with a freshly sharpened bit.  It sucks to be me right now.

Bummer!!! But for me, it is the attempt of trying something which we all knew was going to be real tricky that was the REAL magic here. It's crap to see hours of work explode across your shop, not important, just crap. What was important was stretching our minds
and talents beyond the B2B standard and attempt to create something special that reminded us of him.
I've had several blow ups and I still have all of them. They sit on a safe spot on a shelf that will always catch my eye every time I go in my shop. They'll remind me what this was all about more than the couple of pens I finished.

I'm sure, just like me, you have a favourite from all the cool pens made in this contest. I know one that should be a absolute winner, but I think we ALL won in the end.  Grin   I don't care who actually wins, and in someway I wish one wasn't going to be chosen because I don't think that was what it was all about. I'm even happier that there was no prize as that kept the riff-raff out Grin

Cheers for now

Don't worry about it Gerry.  It's all part of the game  Grin

I'll start working on another blank and we'll make a pen out of it.

I'll just quote you Steven, because that about sums it up  Cool
