Hello All,

I've been lucky enough to pick up a lot of new puzzles in the past month or so. I bought a few boxes of puzzles from Allan Boardman, who was clearing out some of his collection. I also picked up a couple of other puzzles along the way. I've started photographing them all and thought you might enjoy seeing them. The pictures can be seen at http://picasaweb.google.com/JeffreyAurand/NewPuzzles#.

Hope you enjoy them!

Nice assortment.  It seems that Allen must have fallen on hard times.  I recognize many of those puzzles as being made in the last year, so they are not just old things lying around on a shelf.  In fact, I think the Eric Fuller puzzlebox is still on sale at Cubic.  The purpleheart box with wooden pegs I got about a year ago for a friend in Germany, and the plastic barrel was at IPP 2009.  All perfect for a treasure hunt. : )

Still, it is quite a good find.  It should keep you out of trouble for a little while.

Roby,

I don't think it was hard times. He picked out the stuff he wanted to keep from the IPP exchanges, and put the rest in boxes. I purchased two boxes from IPP28 and two boxes from IPP29.

The four boxes in the photos are not from Allan:
  • Eric Fuller's Tier Box
  • Eric Fuller's Beaulid Box
  • Oscar's Patchwork Box by Tom Lensch
  • Ben Krasnow's Sliding Bar Puzzle Box

I should have been more clear - MOSTLY from Allan!

Treasure hunt?  Did someone mention a treasure hunt?  No such hunt in Maine is complete without ... a LIGHTHOUSE!

Nice acquisitions Jeff.

What a coincidence, I just happen to be working on a lighthouse puzzle right now.  Wink

Hopefully, updated pics of my progress will post today.

Ahh!!!  Here it is.  The craigy rock puzzle base.  I still have a ways to go, but I am getting there.

The bolders on the sides hold the lighthouse firmly to the base.  The base is a puzzle, and you have to solve it to get the lighthouse free.  The top of the lighthouse is also a puzzle, and you have to figure out how to get it off before you can access the tower.   The tower is a puzzle and you have to figure out how to solve it before getting into the 2 secret chambers.  It is 3 puzzles in one.  It took forever to find a way to make wood look like rock, but I think I have accomplished it.  I will oxidize the paduk so that it has more traditional earth tones.

Roby,

I'm not so sure about how that is turning out. Here's what I suggest: make three or four copies to get your technique down, mail them to me, and I'll evaluate them for you. I just hope they don't get lost in the return mail when I send them back to you.  Evil

Nice work!

Jeff you need to do something creative with what I have already sent you first.  How is that secret project coming?

Roby,

Ouch. Calling me out in public. Guess I deserved that! I haven't been able to get to the shop since I've received your shipment; looks like there may be some sawdust and firewood being made this weekend.

On a more positive note, met with the architect on Tuesday and we are getting closer to having plans for adding a shop to the house. The contractor says it can be done by end of year. Having a shop at the house (instead of 45 minutes away) will greatly increase my woodworking opportunities!

I guess asking for three or four was too much.  Cool
