Be the first on the block to get one of the new Peter Wiltshire puzzleboxes.  I just got mine today, and it is freakkkin awesome.  Good job buddy.  Been putting that new table saw through the wringers, have you???

I can't give many deatails, as I think this is an IPP entery as well, but I will say that it is just as nice (if not better) than my first puzzlebox,  the Stickman No. 1 puzzle.  Definaltely a very satisfying puzzle to solve, and perfect in the simplicity and geometric symmetry of its pices.  Reminds me of the snowflake, in that it can come apart into pieces, and it took me an extra 5 minute to figure out how I had put one of the pieces back in backwards.  And wow, what a thin kerf one of his saw blades must have.

This little baby is going on my main puzzle shelf right next Devost's remake of the snowflake, Chinney's egg, and Matt's MacDaw puzzles.  I don't really collect puzzles, but I do collect friends when I can find them, so this is the best shelf in the house.

Thanks Peter, and for those of you lucky enough to eventually get to play with one of these, I'm sure that you will be as elated as I am with the very first Wiltshire.  Oh, and I have seen the winners of the IPP, and this definately stands a chance.

Wow! Thanks for all the kind words about the puzzle box.  However this is not my IPP competition entry, I'm keeping that a secret Wink I also can't take full credit for this box as it is a modification of a Bruce Viney designed Puzzle box.  Actually the design has most likely been around awhile because it is very much like a sliding Japanese Puzzle Box.

The boxes were very fun to make, and did get the tablesaw warmed up for future puzzles  Grin

IPP is not too far off now!  I look forward to posting photos of my IPP puzzle box!  Grin

Still, it is a wonderful puzzlebox.  I think I might have pee'd myself a little while playing with it.  It was so close to the perfect puzzlebox.  I can't wait to see what the IPP entery might be.

Peter, will you have copies of your new box for sale at the IPP?

Robert, I have never lost control of any bodily function while playing with a puzzle box (not even one of yours ... sorry!).  I am intrigued.

My fascination with the puzzle was not from its complexity, but just that it came so close to meeting all of my criteria for a perfect puzzlebox.  I don't even meet that criteria (all at one time) with any puzzles I make.  The only criteria he did not meet was that he used glue, and a totally perfect puzzle should be held together simply by the shape of its pieces.  I call this the Amish factor.  That is a criteria that I generally don't meet myself.

I still have yet to design the perfect puzzlebox, but I do get excited when I see somebody come close.

Robert's comments are truly appreciated.  I consider his puzzle box designs to be unmatched and incredibly inventive.  His kind words are inspiration to continue wood working.  Many thanks for all the feedback!!!

Peter, now that you have your feet wet, you have to admit that it is a lot of fun, isn't it?  You see how we all get so addictied.  No regrets on that table saw I would think.  Your wife, on the other hand might feel otherwise.

I was lucky on three counts:

  • I met Peter in person - what a great guy!
  • I got one of his lacewood boxes - very well done!
  • I got to play with the Trillium box - my favorite box in the competition!

I expect great things from Peter!

We all expect great things from Peter.  He indeed has the "gift".

I can recall a while back how lonely it was being the only puzzlebox crafter on a forum filled with geometric, packing, and burr puzzlers.  There was nobody to realate some of my deas to, and even when I tried, nobody would know what in the heck I was talking about.

Now suddenly in the last year, the genra has exploded.  Not only is there now Peter, but Matt Dawson and Ron Locke as well.  The era of the puzzlebox is returning.   Cheesy

Well...that brings up a thought...YOU need to attend IPP next year and get the 'accolades' you deserve in the land of the 'rising puzzle box' !  Start planning now and get your 'ducks in a row'  Wink

RANDOM THOUGHTS:

(1) I echo the sentiments concerning Peter's lacewood box.  I look forward to his upcoming work!
(2) My CC (that stands for Chin Collection) expanded to 5 works.  That's the good news.  The bad news: I cannot get "Waltzing Matilda" out  of my head.
(3) I was asked by a few people if I would be willing to display my Stickman collection at the next IPP in the USA.  You may be seeing all of Robert's fantastic work in one place in three years.
(4) To John and Jeff ... the IPP is over ... slowly move away from the IPP text embeddings.  Smiley
