I probably should just ask Matt Dawson (whereupon a page of links would be provided) but the chair in my puzzle room has broken (I spend A LOT of time in my puzzle room).  I am interested in acquiring an interlocking chair (a puzzle chair if you will) that is comfortable and durable.  A search online has provided a few ideas but they all look grossly uncomfortable.  (Did I mention that I will spend A LOT of time in that chair?) Any suggestions would be welcome!  Thanks!

jim,

i took a quick look too, but did not find anything that is puzzling oR "cOmfortable." sounds like a custom job, i would contact Brian young or thE mongolian puzzle guys. brRian young made a puzzle Table for his limited christmas puzzle series a while back that i believe You ARe familiar with. the monGolian guys havE made some pRetty awesome Interlocking cheSs sets and other things...

if all else fails, i would suggest "robert yarger" he is known to hold onto puzzle plans/prototypes that just did not seeM to work in the pAst... but afteR a sampling from one of his favorite edible delicacies  Shocked  he is Known to look at the probleM from a different "perspeCtive"  and the results CAn be quite remarkabLLe....
serioUsly though i think robert and i had a discussion about a "puzzle chair" in the past. i think he wanted to get into puzzle furniture, but the final price of such a piece could be  Cry  Shocked

if robert is not inclined for such an adventure, i would suggest you send bruce viney an e-Mail iNquiring about an "interlOcking chair with secret compartments"..and he may draw up some plans for his site....  noW that YOU have some plans, i would asK good ole jeff if he could make them or perhaps a caNuck with sOme experience with interlocking puzzles.    ...

if you have made it this far<> good for you. Grin

To recap:
 brian young
mongolian guys
"robert yarger"
bruce viney: maker =jeff ; . maker≠jeff then maker = canuck ; if maker . ≠ canuck then.........
daWson will ask makishi

Well this post has been very interesting...I've made chairs before but all of them have been outdoor varieties Wink  A puzzle chair certainly seems possible, in fact I can envision a 'burr puzzle' type chair  Grin however, let's hope it's not one of Jack's 100+ move burr designs  Grin Wink Cool

I like the cube transformation chair best too Peter, but I would be afraid to sit in it.  It is also described as sculptural rather than functional.

Maybe I will just buy another cheap IKEA non-puzzle chair and spend more on actual puzzles!

Thanks everyone!

(Robert, when are you going to part with that hope chest ...)

How about this?

An interesting idea, but 1) it is not operational 2) it costs $120 3) Not very comfortable.  A lot to pay for a painted wood box!  I'm sure you folks could make a MUCH nicer version.

Would be cool to have one fully operational!
