Inches!??  Why do woodworkers use inches?  Is this true even in Europe and Australia?

Even though I'm American I am unusual in that I always think in meters/cm/mm, being a physics/math type.

In (continental) Europe we all stick to the metric system. In fact, the only body-related measurement we use is the middle finger.

Well for puzzlemaking, measurements are almost always in 'thousands of an inch' so there really is no benefit to using the 'metric' system... Wink

I suppose it's the same puzzle no matter how it is measured!

Quote from: Wikipedia
Only three nations have not officially adopted the International System of Units as their primary or sole system of measurement: Burma, Liberia, and the United States.

I always cringe when I hear this statistic.  I always feel that we Americans are still happily measuring things with our feet while everyone else is laughing behind our backs.  Back in the 70's there was a huge effort here to "go metric", but this failed and now nobody mentions it any more.

No metric system.  No single payer health system.  But we DO have the death penalty for those who complain about the millimeters and health insurance!

Ah....Bernhard, but this is a valid measurement system.  This is how we measure our popularity!
