But in reality, the only 'trick' is the threads. As the threads in the bolts mesh with each other it means that the threads in the nut had to start in exactly the correct place. Easier than it might sound. Just drill the three holes and tap just one of them. At this stage the untapped holes are still three holes and the tapping cuts the overlapping portion out. Insert a bolt in that 2/3rds hole. The threads on the bolt then guide the tap for the next hole. Put a second bolt in and then align the tap with the threads of both bolts to tap the last hole. If the holes were tapped seperatley then there is virtually no chance of getting more than one bolt in.
