Any idea on who has patent rights to the original?  I thought it would be nice to remake the original version out of wood, but I did not want to get sued if I made 30 and tried to sell them.  And yes, I have figured out a way to make them out of wood.

Hi Roby

ask for the rights Bruce Whitehill ( the Big Gamehunter) I think he can give you the correct answer, because he was promting the first millions of the original 3x3x3 cube

happy puzzling

His e-mail link at http://www.thebiggamehunter.com/ is currently down.  I Will try him a bit later.  Thanks Bernhard.  Oh, by the way, I would actually purchase one rubic's for every one that I make and use the internal parts so really I would just be reselling thier puzzle.  I don't figure there is a law against resale of an item, so perhaps I am in the clear anyway.

In terms of a US Patent, Rubik's patent is number 4,378,116 which was granted in 1980.  Patent protection has expired.  Also, on Rubik's official website you can by an Assembly Cube (http://tinyurl.com/c6w3gx ) which provides all of the parts for assembling your own.  Since they clearly advocate customizing the product, I cannot imagine that any laws would be broken by making a wooden version.

Very interesting...I wasn't aware that you could buy it in kit form.  Surely Roby, you would put your own spin on it?  By the way, 'Pinhead' said it's still not a 'Hellraiser Box'  Shocked:-X

I should mention, there appears to be a lot of people making their own version of the 'cube' in many other shapes as well...

Ha!!! I know my next side project now, unless you guys beat me to it.  Tell pinhead that the closet thing I have seen to a hellraiser box at this time is Lee Krasnow's barcode burr.  Check it out at  www.youtube.com/watch?v=OH9JhRalzoY

Still, I have to admit that Krasnow's puzzle meets practically all of my criteria for the "perfect puzzle".  Perhaps I will work on a hellraiser box in my spare time, just to free pinhead from her cube prison.  Pehrahps I will do that for her next spawn day.

Oh, I'm sorry.  Am I in error.  I just assume that all fiery-redheads are spawned instead of born.

See how I lure Barb into a battle that (strangely enough) I know that I will never win.
