After about 14 years Perry McDaniel (a Texan of course) has made about 4580+ puzzle boxes.
Perry has made over the last 14.4 years represent about 20 Sandfield/McDaniel collaborative designs executed in 200 piece limited edition production runs, Perry has designed another 20 unique boxes produced in smaller quantities.

After about 10 years Robert Yarger (Roby Charles) (Stickman) (resident of Oklahoma) has made about 630-750 puzzle boxes.
Robert has made about 18 Stickman boxes, 3 unique locking boxes, and a unique "Kumiki" Elephant.

After about 4 years, Matthew Dawson (another Texan) got an unsuspecting Pennsylvanian to make him 25 boxes for his MakDaw # 1 box.

Maybe Robert should buy some of those Incra Machines  Grin  Wink

It is not quantity, but quality... right Robert? Smiley

I think the Apricot Box by Akio Kamei is the most expensive puzzle box in the world in as much as this box sold for about $17,000 - $25,000 US when it first came out.

Description from Karakuri Site:
At first, the main system is binary which is used Cubi.
This is my most important system.
Secondly, the wood inlay which was made by Haruo Uchiyama is the only one.
It's not a pasted wood inlay like traditional trick boxes in Hakone.
These wood inlay on all Apricots are different a little each other.
Finally I used the beautiful wood which is very hard to plane.
Maybe Apricot has made by our highest techniques.

created : 7/2002
size: 420 × 220 × 220 mm

material: Tochi(Japanese horse chestnut crepe), rosewood, etc.

Ahh !!! The apricot puzzlebox does spring to mind as the all time most sought after puzzlebox.  I beleive that only 4 of them were ever made.  Wonder what they would go for today if anyone would actually part with them.  My guess is they would fetch $150,000 today.

I've got two of them, I suppose I could part with one of them Tongue

As a collector of Kamei's work, I thought seriously about acquiring Apricot when it was first offered through the Karakuri Club at $10000.  But I could not justify paying for a mechanism that I already had (in Cubi) and paying such a big price for a one-of-a kind (albeit beautiful) inlay.  I have resigned myself to the fact that I will never own one.  But I would like to see one up close sometime.  Perhaps even touch it.

Sorry, this is getting too weird.
