Kcube designs claims to have made a puzzle box with 3546 moves to solve:

The designer entered one of the boxes into the IPP 29 contest

Jeff,

I inquired about that box a few weeks ago.

This is his reply::
"It takes about 25 minutes to open, moving at a steady pace and not making any mistakes along the way."

The price he quoted me is fairly reasonable for a puzzle box that requires the most number of steps to open in the world.

The funny thing about this box is that it looks like his other simpler ones-- for example the 16 or 32 move....
So I am thinking the next time I see Wei-Hwa Huang in person, I shall challenge him to see which one of us can open the similar looking boxes first.  Grin I wonder which one he will get  Grin Grin Wink

MBD:

Speaking of videos, here's one of the Kcube designs with 419 moves to open:

By the way, how much do they charge for the 3,546 move box?

I'm surprised the 3,546 move box is the same size as the others.  I thought it would be the big one posted on their homepage.  You should post a picture of it!

Jeff,

The box averages out to $1 per move.  Grin Just kidding.

This is what Kim e-mailed me when I asked him about that box.
" I currently do not have any in stock.  It is  about 3" x 3" x 2 1/4", the same size as my other puzzles
( 4 x 4 x 3 - 3/4" cubes)
The price will be in the $400 range

It takes about 25 minutes to open, moving at a steady pace and not making any mistakes along the way."

Hope that helps,
Matt

25 minutes?  That's better than two moves every second!  Tennis elbow ... meet Kcube hands!

Jim, do you have delicate hands? You'll need to warm up by practicing with your super-cubi.

Maybe they offer a puzzle calisthenics class at the Y!
