It does open.  I've got a picture to prove it.  It is great fun though.  I knew what had to happen to make it open, but It took me a bit of time to find one of the moves.

I don't recognise ANY of the hardware in that pen Ben, is it fully custom?? Shocked Looks cool Grin

Too which pen are you refering? The one for VisExp is based on a baron. I haven't started doing my own threads, so I still need to use a few kit parts.

The for Chinny is  a kit from gary peck.  That's actually the one that got 1st place in the newbie contest over on penturners.  Gary found a box of the kits somewhere in singapore, and he'll send you 1 or 2 if you ask nicely.  They are a bit troublesome, because none  of the pieces press together all of the parts are glued to small tenons that are about 2mm wide and 1mm deep.  I actually used a razor saw to cut the tenon because I didn't have any other tool that would cut that narrow of a path.

Since the joint between the acrylic and burl is at an angle, I could not just turn down the burl sleeve.  I had to turn down the sleeves separately.  Each barrel is actually 3 parts, the pr, the larger burl piece and the smaller burl piece.  It took a couple of tries to get it all figured out, but it was alot of fun.

I was just thinking about this while I was driving to work.  I was thinking there was no way you could turn the smaller diameter with that angle cut.  I figured there had to be an extra piece.

Yep each barrel is three pieces.  I didn't figure the average person would think anything about the miter, but I knew a pen turner would immediatly start thinking about how the pen was made.   Grin Grin

I figure now that skiprat has posted an image showing it open it would be safe for me to post my image of it open. Also I found it harder to lock than unlock, so good luck with getting that door closed.

I received my "Pen for Pen" swap from Mark Liggett.  The pen is carbon fiber and proves once and for all that Mark is the Master Finisher.  Thanks, Mark!  It's already taken a spot of honor on my desk!

Its alright , I can't open mine either, but then I 'm a dumbass when it comes to solving them.
No worries, I'll take it to work and xray it, combination lock inside I believe
Failing that, the hammer will be next

Hi all

Not a swap but a Raffle win.  Attached the kit I won Oupa kindly turned into a pen for me.  I'm not really a photographer, but I can assure you the photos does not do this justice.  The man even went so far as to replace the little knob on the clip with a diamond as you can see from the second photo!!

Thanks Oupa!!
