Gule is a strong waxy substance excreted by bees.  Yeah, I put those little buggers to work.  All real puzzle are held together with gule now.

Isn't that why they used to call it 'Hide' glue? Grin

Chinnomotto,,,,,Mr Chinnomotto to you all  now, has tried all sorts

But being a lazy bugger as he is, especially with the turned puzzles

now uses Isoguard, an Acetone based lacquer , a el cheapo  ( compared to shop prices ) home made brew, made by a famous 80 year old woodturner Bruce Leadbeater( Trooper knows him cause he also sell his brand of Leady Lathe)

Apparently if you spray paint them on, its what furniture makers use on their products.

Why, the finish is very good, 1 coat is sufficient, AND IT DRIES IN 2 MINUTES. Works on most woods except fussy Huon, ideally for professional look, you lightly resand with 600 grit and then use spray can

I always lacquer as it brings the wood colour out and stops grubby fingers staining the pieces. Sometimes a bit more glossy than i prefer $8A for a coffee jar, lasts a year or two

If finish looks yucky or blooby, resand from 240, 320, 600 and recoat, 5 minutes. Wallah, good stuff
