What you are all describing sounds like a "Rota-Maze" puzzle, also known as "Doolorinth" puzzle made into a puzzle box. Don't know if this helps this discussion but you can see the Doolorinth Puzzle here

It's not a puzzle box, the object is to simple get the two pieces apart. To my understanding it has several versions available that come in different colors, the hardest version would have more dead end paths than the easier colored versions. The link above shows a good view of the inside of the maze, looks complicated
Here's another colored version here

That Doolorinth is pretty cool. Thanks for the link on that. Yeah, that is pretty similar to what I am working on, only, The inner "maze" cylinder will be completely concealed by the outer one.

It's gettin' there, I keep bouncing all over the board, working on this, that and the other thing
Yes, you do need a lathe >

The only flaw to getting a lathe is it keeps me from needing John for joint projects. I could make my own chopsticks. Oh, just in case nobody knows, John made all of the chopsticks for my second edition chopstick puzzle boxes.

Hey, don't forget I made all the Domino pieces for your 'Domino Box's....no lathe involved in that

Yes, and a fine job you did, but if you recall that project also started out as the cylindar puzzle that Akbar is now working on. How it transformed into making dominoes from that I will never know.

Yeah that's funny, I don't have a clue how that happened either? We never know what we're doing before it's done

Hi Steve,
Hows that box coming along, or did you throw it out of the plane in frustration?
