Hey john, you know how I can't leave well enough alone.  Picture a pen puzzle that is not a jigsaw.  Instead it consists of 10 wooden rings that fit side by side to make the shank.  Each ring is has a wavey edge that will only fit next to one other particular ring.  In essence, you would have to put them all on in the right order or they would not fit, and it would make a striking pen as well.

You had better get on it, this idea is not going to last.  Here is what you do.  Make 10 pens with differning woods.  Drill 10 holes in a block of wood and load each pen into one hole.  Then using a jigsaw, cut off ten sections of the block using different wavey patterns.  You should end up with perfeclty interchangale pices that can be combined to make pens that are both puzzles and decorative.  Of course, you probably could not use wood, since such rings once removed would prove too fragile.

Frankly, that sounds so doable that I'm rather surprised it hasn't been done before...and I actually think it would be possible in wood, but likely require a modified kit so that more wood could be left on the tubes...hmmmm, one kit that comes to mind would be the 'Art Sketch Kit', it's one length tube and the one end unscrews as well...let me get back to you on this, great idea!! Hey no worries, the idea is already off to the prototype stage Lips Sealed
Chin...think about puzzle rings and you're there!! Wink
You do know Roby's last puzzlebox was meant to be made on the lathe but I couldn't fit it into my rather tight schedule, so he went ahead and made it himself without a lathe! Angry Grin

Well, I warned Lou that it might get rowdy in here after the puzzle guys jumped aboard... Grin
You really need to put a link in your signature so everyone can visit your website, I've been to it so many times I lost count Wink
Featuring artists work and offering some of their pen blanks for sale is such an awesome idea!!!  Keith and Steve are incredibly talented pen craftsmen, so it's nice to see them get some exposure Cool
