I like your idea, but before I start making puzzles in numbers I need to buy a table saw.  In the meantime I have been busy designing a puzzlebox for the competion, now all I need to do is figure out how the heck to build it  Shocked

I did see something neat at the Hamilton wood show that I thought you would like.  It was a small kit that would turn a hand held drill into a mini lathe.  The drill power the thing and you could set it all up on one of those portalable work tables.  I was tempted at the miniscule price of $79.00 Canadian. They were turning chair legs on it, and it was pretty cool.

Yeah really for turning pens a small lathe is ample, but you'd laugh at my set up, it's a 14"x 37" monster of a lathe, kind'a funny when all I turn is pens and the occasional puzzle Grin  Also my Taig lathe is the smallest lathe you'll ever see but it'll turn anything!  So I guess most of the tablesaws you looked at were too expensive?  I run a Jet and aside from a problem with the trunion mechanism a few years ago it's been really good and I think they run about $700 Canadian.

My eye is currently on a Ridgid 3660.  I believe Scott has the 3650 and his work is top notch, I believe the 3660 is the newer model with a few minor updates.  Home Depot sells it for 599, but I hear they often go on sale for 469, so I am keeping an eye on them,  I'm also waiting until it's not so damn cold out in the garage.  Don't want to get a new toy and not be able to play with it  Grin

Oh it's not the equipment that makes the work top notch, grasshopper...just kidding, but really I think Scott could likely put anybody's work to shame just using a hack saw, his accuracy is astounding Grin

I like the ridgid lineup, I have a belt sander that I've been using forever...and you know how much I use a sander with puzzlemaking!  Got yourself a good deal at that sale price....when you get it Wink

Here's a favorite site of mine: http://www.bathsheba.com/   They are not all puzzles, but she shows what is possible with geometry.

Thanks, Tom.  I wasn't comfortable "grabbing" the photos.  Nice P.O. Box!

I fully subsribe to this. She is one of my preferred artists (together with George Hart, Rinus Roelofs and many other mathematicians)

PS George, why this hip in your avatar?  Perhaps because the femoral neck can be modeled by an hyp...erboloid?  Wink

PPS I have a nice video also of a collapsable hyperboloid.. will post it too. It is not a puzzle but it is funny

PS George, why this hip in your avatar?

This is my hip pre-surgery.  After resurfacing it is now an artificial joint.  No particular reason, my hip has run my life for the past year, but now it is feeling great!

It shows I am hip!!   Tongue Roll Eyes Huh? Cheesy
